NSWO German connection is audience hit (May 06, 2008)
The NSWO concert on Saturday 3rd May 2008 at Langar Church had a distinctly international flavour. Conducting duties were shared between Eduard Oertle from Stuttgart and the group's musical director Keiron Anderson for this unique concert. Eduard Oertle is a leading conductor of wind ensembles in Germany, and is the General Secretary of the German section of WASBE, the World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles.

The programme also reflected the international flavour of the occasion, including the quintessentially British such as Elgar's Nimrod and Keiron Anderson's own Radio Days, which evokes the era of British light music. There were also works by European and American composers, with a unique performance of Humperdinck's Hansel and Gretel Overture, transcribed from the orchestral version for winds.

The success of the evening was a testament to Keiron Anderson's throughtful preparation of the pieces, Eduard Oertle's professionalism in conducting the group with minimal rehearsal time, and the flexibility and generosity of NSWO in producing an excellent performance for a new conductor. This is an association which, it is hoped, will continue with other joint projects in the future.

"The programme was challenging, unique and entertaining; in fact it would not have been possible for any other group to reproduce that programme anywhere in the world." Keiron Anderson Click here to return to the News page
