THE pre-concert champagne set the tone for an evening that sparkled in celebration of a special anniversary - Windblowers, Derby Road music shop and tireless sponsors of community music groups and festivals in the area, is 25 years old.
Of all the jewels in their richly studded crown none shines brighter than the Nottingham Symphonic Winds, so it was fitting that they should take to the stage at the East Midlands Conference Centre to provide the evening's entertainment.
Conductor Keiron Anderson led the band through a cosmopolitan selection of numbers designed to showcase not only precise ensemble (achieved despite the unhelpful acoustics) but also much individual virtuosity.

Russia, America, England, Vienna and Spain were some of the places whose music was represented, with the selection from Porgy and Bess and saxophonist Alistair Parnell's breathtaking performance of Pequena Czardas standing out as highlights in a well-judged and highly entertaining programme.
