Concert Report: NWE at Clifton, 25th April 2009 (April 30, 2009)
On Saturday 25th April Nottingham Wind Ensemble performed at Holy Trinity church in Clifton. The concert was in aid of the fund to repair the roof of St. Francis church, also in Clifton. In total £484 was raised towards this worthy cause.

The concert kicked off with a number of pieces drawn from popular films. The climax of the first half was Cry of the Celts - a piece which the band had been introduced to at a recent day long workshop. The five movements of this piece varied from the invigorating Breakout  to the sorrowful Lament, many including skillfully played solo sections.

The second half began with Sibelius' Finlandia which was followed by a well received performance of Ian Clarke's pretty flute solo, Sunstreams. A further highlight was the unusual Japanese Slumber Song which is a popular piece among band members.

The band performed so well that they have been requested to return in the future for another concert.

This concert was the last for a short while with percussionist June. As a valuable member of the band she will be missed. The band have enjoyed playing alongside her and look forward to her return.
