NSWO NewsHelp for Heroes(November 15, 2010)
Nottingham’s unique award-winning group, the Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra (NSWO) presented a cheque for £600.00 to Help for Heroes, following a successful fundraising concert earlier this year. The Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra is one of the leading groups of its kind in the UK. The group has delighted audiences at home and abroad since its formation in 1987, filling the churches and concert halls of the East Midlands and touring throughout Europe. Many of the NSWO concerts are given in support of local and national charities, which have benefitted to the tune of over £70,000. The concert was held in Long Eaton West Park Leisure Centre in May 2010, attended by an enthusiastic audience and representatives from the local Chilwell barracks. Whilst essentially an evening of entertaining music there were moments of great poignancy; most especially when the offstage trumpets played the introduction to the evocative ‘Hymn to the Fallen’ by John Williams. The money raised enabled the organisers to present a cheque to Brigadier A P Williams OBE who accepted it on behalf of the charity. The group are always pleased to hear from charities or groups that would like to stage a fundraising event. See them next at St Giles’ Church, West Bridgford on Saturday December 4th 2010 for a Christmas special in aid of Barnardo’s and CLIC Sargent.(More information from 01159 410543 or www.nottinghamsymphonicwinds.org.uk) Enc.
