Classic Clarinet comes to Nottingham (March 06, 2006)
Artie Shaw’s instrument plays Artie Shaw concerto
Nottingham‘s Albert Hall will be the venue for a unique musical event on July 1st 2006.
Nigel Hinson, proud new owner and virtuoso player of Artie Shaw’s clarinet, will join Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra for a special concert featuring the clarinet concerto written by Artie Shaw himself.
The late Artie Shaw, who died in 2004, made a great musical contribution during his life, as a jazz clarinettist, band leader, composer and writer. He owned several clarinets during the course of his career. Nigel considers himself fortunate to be the new owner of this particular instrument, thought to be Artie’s favourite, and now uses it for all his professional playing. “The purchase of this clarinet represents one of the most important junctures in my professional life as a musician…I use it for all my work, it is that good!”
The July concert will be a showcase not only for the clarinet, but also for the talents of Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra and their conductor Keiron Anderson. The award-winning group are previous gold medal winners in national concert band finals, and as well as a regular local concert programme regularly tour overseas.
Saturday July 1st, 7.30 pm Albert Hall, Nottingham.
