Ilkley Grammar School has an outstanding head of music, and Nottingham, too, is to benefit from his talents.
Keiron Anderson made his debut on Saturday as director of the Nottingham Symphonic Wind Orchestra. His close control of technical detail was allied to a constant regard for artistic values.
Anderson knows how to put together a tidy programme of contrasts. The arrangements included rousing Folk Dances by Shostakovitch, a symphonic suite from Leonard Bernstein's dramatic West Side Story and the charm of the Sullivan dance medly Pineapple Poll.
The sounds blended well in the acoustics - not too boomy - of Wollaton's newest community centre.
In addition to his other gifts, Anderson was also a fluent and entertaining compere. Future NSWO events should be a real treat.
