Kidsophonic Goes to Bandland (December 23, 2006)
More than 500 children and adults enjoyed an enchanting morning of music and entertainment at Nottingham's Albert Hall on Saturday 23rd December at the annual 'Kidsophonic' Christmas Concert.

Nottingham Symphonic Winds with Alistair Parnell, guest conductor and compere for the morning, presented a Christmas spectacular that had the audience involved from the very start.

Some fine playing from the 80-strong group of musicians set the standard for an entertaining programme of Christmas music.  A highlight was the  introduction to the different instruments of the orchestra - how "Frosty Flute" learned to appreciate the qualities of the various sections and instruments, by banishing them group by group and then realising the error of her ways! Instruments were introduced in a way that enabled even the youngest children to clearly see each one and identify with the sound it made.

Alistair Parnell's engaging presence ensured all members of the family were able to enjoy this relaxed concert, helped along by inviting younger children to sit in the main auditorium close to the band, so they were fully involved throughout.

An appearance by the Equinox saxophone ensemble also added to the variety of presentation, and provided  the opportunity for special guest Santa to arrive, courtesy of the Santa Express!

After such a magical morning of musical entertainment, next year's concert will no doubt be already included in the Christmas calendar for many Nottingham families.
